DHL Express will hand over its next 767 to Kalitta Air to be operated on a CMI basis, the German express integrator has confirmed to Cargo Facts. The aircraft, a 767-300BDSF (27686, ex-Royal Air Maroc) which appears to have completed the conversion process, is expected to be redelivered and put into operation within the next month.
Unit 27686 was originally delivered to Spanish carrier Air Europa in May 2000. After it was withdrawn from passenger service with Royal Air Maroc toward the end of 2018, it was stored at Shannon (SNN) for about three months. The 767 was then ferried to Mexico City (MEX) in March 2019 to be inducted for conversion into freighter configuration by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) at the Mexicana MRO Services facility.
Kalitta currently flies six 767-300BDSFs on an ACMI basis and two 767-300BCFs on a CMI basis for DHL.
Another 767 (28042, ex-Air Italy) is under conversion by Boeing in Singapore (QPG), but it is unclear at this point whether DHL will also place that frame with Kalitta.
IAI announced the Mexicana facility as an additional conversion line for 767-300s in June 2017.
