New cargo terminal for Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines signed a EUR50 million loan agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) to construct a new “state-of-the-art” air cargo terminal at Addis Ababa. When completed, the facility will have annual capacity to handle 1.2 million tonnes of cargo.

The new cargo terminal is part of Ethiopian Cargo’s Vision 2025, aimed to support the country’s export of perishables including flowers, fruits, vegetables and meat. That plan includes expansion of its freighter network to eighteen aircraft serving 37 international cargo destinations by 2025.

Ethiopian Cargo currently has dedicated freighter services to 26 cargo destinations in Africa, the Gulf, Middle East, Asia and Europe, using six dedicated freighters, including two 777Fs, two MD-11Fs, and two 757Fs (a 737-400F is leased to Togo-based ASKY Airlines). The airline also has four more 777Fs on order from Boeing
