Earlier this month, a 21 Air operated 767-200BDSF (23803) emerged from heavy maintenance and began operating on an ACMI-basis for AeroMéxico Cargo [FAT 005149].
Previously, ABX Air had operated a 767-200BDSF for AeroMéxico Cargo. 21 Air has a second 767-200BDSF (23801) that is finishing up a C Check in Georgia, and will soon reenter service.
Getulio Centanaro, VP Americas, AeroMéxico Cargo, told Cargo Facts the freighter operation remains crucial to the carrier’s ability to interline volumes originating in, or with a destination in Asia with its broader Americas flight network. Cargo carried on the 5-times-weekly 767-200F flights between Los Angles (LAX) and the carrier’s main gateway in Mexico City (MEX) feeds the bellies of aircraft departing MEX. In addition to its large narrowbody fleet, AeroMexico also operates eighteen 787s, which facilitate container interlining because of the compatibility between containers carried on the 767 and the lower hold of the 787, said Centanaro.
In addition to the frequent connections between LAX and MEX, AeroMexico’s 767F also offers capacity between the United States and Central America with weekly flights to Costa Rica and Guatemala from Los Angeles. For now, AeroMéxico has no plans to make adjustments to its freighter network or schedule.
