Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos SA, Brazil’s state postal service, filed a request with the country’s antitrust authority to be allowed to buy a minority stake in all-cargo carrier Rio Linhas Aéreas.
Correios currently uses thirteen airlines on a contract basis for courier and cargo services, but Brazil’s Comptroller General, and the Court of Accounts (the country’s budget management agency) are reported to have recommended the acquisition of an ownership stake in one or more of them. Correios has not specified the size of the stake it wants to buy, nor the price it would pay.
Rio Linhas Aéreas currently operates one 767-200F, five 727-200Fs, and one 737-400F.
