Moscow-based Transaero has been busy in the cargo space, while rival Aeroflot was scaling down.
In June Transaero signed a deal with Russian Post to carry 600 tonnes of cargo per month out of Moscow’s Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports. The carrier and the postal service also agreed to develop a charter program for postal deliveries on mainline routes.
Last year, Transaero’s cargo volume was nearly 70,000 tonnes, up 5.9% on 2012, and it has seen a 10% increase in the first five months of this year.
The carrier operates two Tu-204-100 freighters as well as a 100-unit passenger fleet, which includes twenty 747s, fourteen 777s, and eighteen 767s.
