GAMECO’s facility in Guangzhou (CAN), a conversion site for multiple programs, converted its twentieth 737-800BCF in June 2023. The 2002-vintage 737-800BCF (33004, ex-Neos) was redelivered to Ireland-based Genesis and placed on lease with El Al Israel Airlines.

GAMECO also completed its first 767-300BCF in October 2022 with the 2012-vintage 767-300BCF (41746, ex-LATAM). Boeing redelivered that aircraft to DHL.

The MRO facility achieved another milestone in 2022, when it completed touch labor for the prototype of COMAC’s ARJ21-700CCF conversion program. COMAC delivered the first two units to China-based YTO Cargo Airlines and Air Central in October 2023.

“The passenger-to-freighter conversion market is likely to remain an attractive one in the medium to long term,” Szepan told Cargo Facts in July 2023. “Airbus currently has a relatively low market share. So Airbus conversions should represent a very interesting opportunity for future growth. For now, our focus is on delivering on our commitments to Boeing and COMAC.

“For the future, we are looking at all growth opportunities for our conversion business,” he said.

Szepan previously served as senior vice president for Lufthansa Systems and also held various roles at Lufthansa Technik, where he was responsible for MRO and flight operations support for businesses based in Asia, Europe and the United States.

Cargo Facts Asia will assemble industry leaders and executives to share their insights on the air cargo sector in the Asia-Pacific region while providing attendees a forum to engage with key decision-makers.
