Volume up, yield down in October

Netherlands-based WorldACD released its analysis of the worldwide airfreight business for October, showing volume up 5.5% y-o-y, although yield was down 2.3%.

As we have reported, anecdotal evidence for November showed a dramatic spike in charter demand (against a backdrop of congestion at US west coast ocean ports), so we expect yields will have rebounded, but in October the year-long pattern of relatively strong gains in volume and declines in yield held sway.

The charts below show year-over-year changes air cargo volume and yield (top chart), and moving averages in the last twelve months for volume, revenue,  and yield (bottom chart). WorldACD bases its analysis on data gathered directly from the airwaybills of over fifty carriers.
