Back in 1994, Martinair became the launch customer for one of the lesser-known variants of the MD-11, the MD-11 Convertible Freighter (CF). Just six were built, four going to Martinair and two going to World Airways. World’s CFs have since been converted to windowless freighters.
Though Martinair is highly unlikely to ever fly passengers again on their CF’s, some have retained the windows. Indeed, since the last time we saw a Martinair freighter on Cargofacts.net, the airline has announced that it will cease all passenger operations in late 2011 and become, effectively, the all-cargo arm of parent company Air France-KLM.
Seen here operating MPH66 (the return leg of Martinair’s once-weekly service between Seatac and Schiphol) is PH-MCS (msn: 48618), the third of Martinair’s MD-11CF’s, delivered in April of 1995.
