EFW, the Germany-based MRO and conversion joint venture of Singapore Technologies Aerospace and Airbus, ferried an A330-300 (127, ex-Hi Fly) from its Dresden facility (DRS) to ST Aero’s conversion center at Singapore’s Paya Lebar Airport (QPG) for conversion to freighter configuration for DHL Express.
DHL is the launch customer for EFW’s A330-300P2F program, and the first of four aircraft in that order (116, ex-Malaysia Airlines) was inducted for conversion at Dresden in July 2016. The company had originally planned to convert at least the first two A330-300s at EFW’s Dresden facility before adding Paya Lebar as a second conversion center, and unit 127 was inducted at Dresden in December 2016. But, with increasing demand for both MRO and conversion work in Dresden, the company decided to bring Paya Lebar into the mix ahead of schedule, and this week ferried the aircraft to Singapore and will do the conversion there.
In addition to the A330-300, EFW also is in the process of developing a freighter conversion program for the A330-200, and has so far taken an order for two conversions from launch customer EgyptAir.
EFW also offers a conversion program for the A300-600 (although that program is winding down), and is developing conversion programs for the A321 and A320 (no orders so far).
