In a sign that demand for narrowbody conversions is picking up, Jacksonville-based MRO FLIGHTSTAR AIRCRAFT SERVICES reached an agreement with Miami-based conversion specialist AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERS Inc (AEI), under which Flightstar will become AEI’s second authorized conversion center. AEI holds STCs for 737-200, 737-300, and 737-400 passenger-to-freighter conversions, and expects certification in the near future for its MD-80 P-to-F program. The companies said that Flightstar will initially dedicate one production line to AEI, capable of converting six 737 aircraft annually, with the first 737 going into conversion in the 4th quarter of 2010.

Flightstar has considerable conversion experience, having provided touch labor on over twenty 757-200 conversions for PRECISION CONVERSIONS (a role which it will continue to fulfill), as well as over fifty 727-200 P-to-F conversions.
