LobsterWho wants fresh lobster? Nova Scotia is known for its bounty of the savory crustaceans, and there will be plenty of it shipped overseas throughout the holiday season. Now Israel-based CAL Cargo Airlines will carry some of the bounty when it begins operations at Halifax Stanfield International Airport this month.

“Not only does this new service support our seafood industry, it provides positive impact on our provincial economy and signals continued growth of air cargo at Halifax Stanfield,” said Joyce Carter, Halifax International Airport authority’s president and CEO. The service is part of Nova Scotia’s goal of achieving 50 percent export growth in the next 10 years, Carter added.

CAL Cargo Airlines will offer cargo flights to Liége, Belgium, using its 747-400 freighter, with connecting service to Hong Kong and Shanghai. “It was only three months ago that we announced round-trip service from Atlanta, Georgia, and now, with Halifax, we have significantly strengthened our foothold and expanded our network in North America,” said Eyal Zagagi, CEO of the CAL Group.

Lobster will be distributed world-wide through connections with various carriers at Halifax Stanfield. In addition to CAL Cargo Airlines, several carriers will be transporting seafood ex-Halifax this season, including Air Canada, CargoJet, FedEx, UPS and Korean Air Cargo. Korean Air Cargo, using 777Fs, and CAL Cargo Airlines will offer the largest shipments of lobster.
