TNT grows in Spain to accommodate economic recovery

TNT Express – following its acquisition last month by FedEx – announced plans this week to expand its international express delivery service in Spain, adding 1,300 postal codes to its next day delivery. The company anticipates reaching 90% of Spanish businesses with the expansion. The move is the latest in a series of improvements that the express company has rolled out in the country, including additional pickup and delivery vehicles at higher frequencies, additional direct linehaul routes, and a new international road transit hub that was recently established in Madrid.

Christophe Boustouller, SVP Ops Southern Europe is bullish about his company’s prospects in the country, pointing out that Spain is, “one of Europe’s fastest growing economies.” His optimism is substantiated by the International Monetary Fund’s latest projections, which anticipate Spain’s GDP expanding by 2.6% this year, faster than the euro zone average of 1.5%. Spanish customs data showed a 3.7% increase in imports last year, on the back of a resurgence in domestic demand.

According to a TNT press release, the expansion in express service covers every province of the country, including Málaga, Albacete, Badajoz, Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Toledo, Burgos, Valladolid, Gerona, Granada, Huelva, Huesca, La Coruña, Almería, León, Salamanca, Lugo, Murcia, Orense, Córdoba, Asturias, Palencia, Tarragona, Cádiz and Cantabria.
