HACTL partners with Shenyang Airport on North China hub

Hong Kong’s largest independent cargo handler, HACTL, has entered into an agreement with Liaoning Airport Management Group, the owner of Shenyang Taoxian International Airport in northeastern China, to develop the airport into a “major regional cargo hub.” The agreement was inked by HACTL’s development arm, HACTL Development Holdings Ltd (HDHL).

Shenyang Airport is located some 625 kilometers northeast of Beijing, and is the aviation gateway to the provincial capital and largest city in Liaoning Province. Shenyang is also an industrial center for heavy industry, automobile manufacturing and resource extraction. These sectors have been hit especially hard by the overall economic slowdown.

In 2015, cargo throughput was 142,000 tonnes per year, up 2.7 percent, year-over-year. Currently, Shenyang is served by China Southern Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Spring Airlines. In addition, China Postal Airlines and SF Airlines operate freighter services.

HACTL did not announce the specifics of the deal, but Shenyang said it hopes to develop cool chain and pharma traffic at the airport. Shenyang will also undertake a more thorough investigation into potential areas of growth, with HDHL most likely providing consulting services regarding airport design, construction and operation.
