Northern Air Cargo 737-200FWith interest in pharmaceuticals and other perishable goods on the rise, U.S.-based freighter carrier Northern Air Cargo (NAC) – known mostly for serving icier climes in Alaska – said it will begin four-times-a-week charter service out of Miami International Airport (MIA) on Nov. 1 to several destinations around the Caribbean Islands.

Two of the flights will operate weekly on a triangular route between MIA, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the island of Saint Martin. Another weekly flight will operate roundtrips between MIA and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The fourth route will serve MIA, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and Santo Domingo. For all four flights, NAC will use a 737-300F aircraft.

“MIA’s vast route network across the globe, in addition to our evolving cargo logistics infrastructure, continues to attract freighter airlines from around the world,” said Emilio T. González, director of Miami-Dade Aviation, welcoming NAC in its “expansion to the Latin American and Caribbean region.”

NAC is now the third all-cargo airline to begin service at MIA this year, González said. In April, Canada-based KF Cargo launched charter freight service between MIA and multiple points in South America. Also in November of this year, MIA will welcome U.S.-based carrier 21 Air, which will begin six weekly frequencies between MIA and Bogotá, Colombia, plus two weekly flights between MIA, Panama City and Guatemala City.
