Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) experienced a significant uptick in cargo throughput during the first 11 months of 2017, as the overall cargo handle at the airport rose by 30 percent, year-over-year, to more than 260,000 tonnes, and cargo volumes on international flights increased by a full 80 percent during the same time.

The most popular international routes include China, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France and the United States, which made up more than 50 percent of all freight traffic at SVO. The United Kingdom, India, Israel, Thailand and South Korea were also high-demand routes.

The largest increase in outbound and transit freight traffic was seen on routes to Zhengzhou (CGO), New York (JFK), Heathrow (LHR) and Seoul (ICH). The largest increases for inbound traffic were on routes from Delhi (DEL), Oslo (OSL), Hanoi (HAN) and Brussels (BRU).

International volumes moving through Russia’s newest and largest cargo complex, Moscow Cargo, also rose by an impressive 60.8 percent, y-o-y, for the first 11 months of 2017. Domestic volumes moving through the complex fell by a slight 3 percent during the same time.
