UAVOS converts CH-7 Heli-Sport to unmanned helicopter

Unmanned systems technology company UAVOS has partnered with defense contractor Battle Lab India to manufacture the UVH 500 vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) cargo drone. California-based UAVOS told Cargo Facts that four, new, Italian CH-7 Heli-Sport helicopters will undergo unmanned aerial system (UAS) conversion into drones this year. The company expects to produce a total of six of the converted aircraft within the next two years. [caption id="attachment_56725366" align="alignright" width="560"] The modified CH-7 Heli-Sport. (Photo/UAVOS)[/caption] The UVH 500 is designed to support cargo delivery in dense populations, aid in search-and-rescue missions and transport emergency supplies. It has the capacity to carry up to 353 lbs for 522 miles at an average speed of 99 mph. UAVOS conducted initial tests on the UVH 500 in 2020 and recently completed testing the basic aircraft systems with Vadodara, India-based Battle Lab India. UAVOS CEO Aliaksei Stratsilatau told Cargo Facts that its new partnership is aimed at expanding its presence in the Indian commercial and security market and promoting the government’s “Made in India” initiative. The collaboration will feature a production facility in India for the UVH 500 that will design, test, develop and provide logistical support, UAVOS told Cargo Facts . The UAS will be operated as cargo drones in India and Turkey. The UVH 500 joint conversion program is another example of partnerships being created in the cargo drone market. Elroy Air and FedEx recently forged a deal aimed at providing a viable logistics solution that serves the 300- to 500-mile range. The UVH 500’s capabilities are similar to the Atlis hybrid-electric drone manufactured by Aergility and can provide remote assistance in the “last-100-mile” market.
