AirExplore to enter freighter market

Slovakia-based ACMI and charter carrier AirExplore is expanding its business into the freighter market and will soon take its first 737-800BCF. The carrier told Cargo Facts that it will dry lease the 2003-vintage unit 33719 (ex-Ryanair) from BBAM [FAT 007580]. The aircraft arrived in Jinan (TNA) in October 2021 for conversion with Boeing. (Photo/RDS Cargo Group)[/caption] Unit 33719 will begin service in the second half of 2022 on a charter basis for RDS Cargo Group, a U.A.E.-based charter broker that will gain access to an own-controlled freighter for the first time. AirExplore told Cargo Facts that it intends to further grow this new pillar of its business. The airline currently operates an all-737 fleet consisting of eight -800s. 737-800 freighters have been the entry point into freighter operations for several passenger carriers of late, including Brazil-based GOL and Canada-based WestJet . Meanwhile, other passenger ACMI and charter airlines that have diversified, or will diversify, into the cargo market include SmartLynx Airlines and Global Crossing Airlines , both with Airbus freighters.
