Lobo Leasing secures first customer for Nuuva V300 drone

Dublin-based Lobo Leasing received a letter of intent to lease five Pipistrel Nuuva V300 drones from humanitarian logistics subsidiary Air Taurus Limited on Jan. 11. Under the LOI, delivery of the first units will occur between 2025 and 2026, Lobo Leasing told Cargo Facts. The LOI also stipulates that Lobo Leasing and Air Taurus Limited will cooperate to develop a leasing model for the new aircraft type. (Photo/Lobo Leasing)[/caption] Lobo Leasing told Cargo Facts that when it originally signed an LOI with Pipistrel for fifteen Nuuva V300 autonomous cargo aircraft in April 2022, it did so on a speculative basis, and it is now beginning to secure customers for the order. The company said it selected the drones to complement its existing helicopter fleet, and for Pipistrel’s OEM experience. As a part of the agreement between Lobo Leasing and Slovenia-based Pipistrel, both the lessor and drone manufacturer will collaborate to connect operators and investors. The LOI represents a continued trend as helicopter lessors and operators order drones and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as a part of fleet modernization. Nuuva V300 capabilities Pipistrel’s Nuuva V300 can carry a 300-kilogram payload up to 300 kilometers at cruising speeds of 120 knots, with VTOL capability. The drone uses Pipistrel’s type-certified E-811 electric engines for vertical flight, and a conventionally-powered Rotax engine for horizontal propulsion, the manufacturer told Cargo Facts. The Nuuva V300 will also feature a nose-loading door and be capable of carrying Euro Pallets (EPAL), according to the company. The Rotax engine used in the Nuuva V300 also powers the Dronamics Blackswan , which is looking to become one of Europe’s first commercially certified drones. The LOI to lease the hybrid electric drone comes days after aircraft lessor LCI placed an order for twenty of Elroy’s hybrid-electric Chaparral C1s. Express carrier SF Airlines ordered a VTOL cargo drone from Pipistrel in 2021 and currently expects a fleet of 1,000 VTOL-capable drones for its middle-mile logistics.
