Acquisitions, redeliveries dominate Q2 2023

The second quarter of 2023 showed strong performance for acquisitions, inductions and redeliveries for the 243 freighter aircraft transactions (FATs) Cargo Facts reported in the quarter. In Q2, forty-seven acquisitions and redeliveries were reported along with forty-four conversions. (Photo/AirExplore)[/caption] While the conversion rate in the widebody sector slowed, the 767-300 freighter programs accounted for most widebody transactions; five 767-300BCFs and four -300BDSFs were redelivered. Although the acquisition of 767-300ERs decreased by six compared with Q1, ten aircraft were inducted for conversion. Seven production 767-300Fs and 777Fs were delivered in Q2, and an order for six 777Fs was canceled by Hong Kong International Aviation Leasing . The Airbus A330-300F and -200F programs totaled three redeliveries in the quarter in addition to three A330-300s inducted for conversion. An order for four A350Fs was placed by an unidentified customer. Acquisitions and redeliveries tied for the most transactions generated for the quarter. The 737-800 led the group with eleven acquisitions; the 767-300ER and A321-200 accumulated the second most acquisitions with five aircraft each. The 737-800BCF sets the pace with thirteen redeliveries, while the A321-200P2F gains momentum with six aircraft converted, and the 767-300BCF and 737-800SF both round out the redeliveries with five aircraft, respectively. The narrowbody freighters led all categories with more than 130 transactions. The 737-800BCF continues to see strong demand with nine aircraft placed on lease and five conversion and lease orders each. The 737-800 feedstock continues to fill conversion houses with fifteen aircraft being inducted while six A321-200s and four 757-200s were converted. Acquisitions stood out in the first quarter but saw a 14.5% decline from fifty-five to forty-seven in Q2. The 767-300ERs led with ten acquisitions at the beginning of the year but fell to five aircraft purchased in the second quarter. Here is a full list of transactions for April , May and June .
