Natilus’ Matyushev to highlight alternative freighters at Cargo Facts Symposium 2023 

Aleksey Matyushev, co-founder and chief executive of autonomous aircraft developer Natilus, will present on alternative freighter aircraft on Oct. 27 at Cargo Facts Symposium 2023. 

The 29th Cargo Facts Symposium will take place Oct. 25-27 at the Omni Hotel in San Diego, where industry leaders will gather to share their insights and analyses on developing market trends while providing an outlook on the air cargo industry in the Americas and around the world. 

Prior to founding Natilus, Matyushev served as the lead aerodynamicist at Piper Aircraft and as aerodynamics lead at Kratos Defense on military UAV systems. He has supported multiple general aviation and UAS programs in aircraft design, computational fluid dynamics, performance, stability and control, flight testing, loads and certification.  

Natilus selected the ZeroAvia ZA600 hydrogen-electric engine in May as the power plant for its Kona unmanned cargo aircraft after the drone manufacturer began initial test flights on a scale model in April. 

The company started the year with an order from Dallas-based Ameriflight for twenty of the Kona autonomous blended wing body cargo aircraft, the initial and smallest member of a planned family of aircraft. 

“It’s an exciting time for the industry and for Natilus as there are immense opportunities for more efficient aircraft configurations, enhanced sustainability and autonomy, which our team is laser-focused on,” Matyushev said. 

Matyushev will present alongside Myles Goeller, chief business officer at Reliable Robotics, in a session on “The booming alternative aircraft segment” on Friday, Oct. 27, at 9:45 a.m. PDT (GMT -5). The session will provide insight into the emerging UAV segment in the air cargo sector and the impact on freighter aircraft capacity from the long haul to the last mile.
