Transactions: Scan Global expands Latin American footprint with Blu acquisition

Denmark-based freight forwarder Scan Global Logistics has expanded its presence in Latin America with the acquisition of freight forwarder Blu Logistics Brasil . (Courtesy/Scan Global Logistics)[/caption] Headquartered in Sao Paulo, Blu was founded in 2013 and employs more than 200 people across eight offices, according to a Sept. 2 release from Scan Global Logistics (SGL). Blu generated 570 million Brazilian reals ($103.4 million) in revenue in 2023. Blu’s “operational platform will help pave the way for SGL to establish a strategic presence in Brazil and expand our global reach,” SGL Chief Executive Allan Melgaard said in the release. SGL has expanded its Latin American footprint in recent years, operating in: Argentina; Colombia; Chile; Peru; and Mexico. “We are investing in building a strong Latin America region and presence,” Jorn Schmersahl , SGL CEO for Latin America, said in the release. “Besides a significant intra-LatAm trade, the region provides great opportunities for growth with North America due to existing free trade agreements [and] also has strong and growing links with Asia and Europe.” DP World acquires Cargo Services Far East Freight forwarder DP World acquired Cargo Services Far East , a global supply chain provider headquartered in Hong Kong, helping DP World enter the retail and fashion logistics industry. Cargo Services employs more than 2,500 people across Asia, Europe, South Africa and the United States, according to a Sept. 2 release from DP World. With the acquisition, DP World has more than 115,000 employees in 800 locations globally. Founded in 1989, Cargo Services had a portfolio of solutions, including origin purchase order management, ocean freight, airfreight and warehousing, according to the release, as well as supply chain management services for retail and high-fashion customers in: Australia; Europe; New Zealand; South Africa; United Kingdom; and United States. Full integration of the two companies is planned in the next few months. Cargo Services Group Managing Director John Lau will assume a senior leadership position within DP World, the release stated. Magma Aviation signs freighter-handling contract with WFS at LGG [caption id="attachment_57145008" align="alignright" width="225"] (Courtesy/Worldwide Flight Services)[/caption] Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a member of Sats Group , signed a multiyear contract with cargo carrier Magma Aviation at Liege Airport (LGG) in Belgium, according to a Sept. 3 release from WFS. Starting this month, WFS is providing ramp and warehouse cargo handling for a minimum of five Boeing 747-400F flight rotations a week, the release stated. WFS also handles cargo onboard charter flights operated by Magma Aviation’s freighter fleet. The contract will see WFS handle more than 50,000 tonnes of cargo per year for Magma Aviation, according to the release. WFS supports cargo operations across two warehouses totaling 14,000 square meters at LGG, the release stated. LGG ranks 27th on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 1.1 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. Virgin Atlantic Cargo appoints ECS Group as GSSA [caption id="attachment_57145010" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/ECS Group)[/caption] Virgin Atlantic Cargo appointed ECS Group , through its subsidiary TCE , as general sales and service agent in continental Europe, with implementation will be phased in later this year. Initial representation will cover exports from the Netherlands, Denmark and Italy, before representation expands across continental Europe, a Sept. 12 release from ECS Group stated. LAWA awards AGI Cargo 5-year warehouse lease Cargo handler AGI Cargo was awarded a warehouse lease by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) effective Nov. 1, according to a Sept. 4 release from AGI. AGI already operates at six Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) cargo facilities with more than 500 employees, the release stated. “With AGI’s emphasis on sustainability and service excellence augmented by AI innovation, we are confident that this building will expand our value proposition to LAWA and LAX’s cargo community,” AGI CEO Jared Azcuy said in the release. LAX ranks ninth on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 2.5 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. Editor’s note: All amounts have been converted to U.S. dollars.
