Emirates begins trans-Pacific 777F ops

Emirates has launched a trans-Pacific freighter flight using a 777F, a first for the airline as it continues to expand its network backed by a growing fleet. One of the carrier’s 777Fs (68619) departed Dubai (DWC) on July 5 for Hanoi (HAN) and flew across the Pacific to Anchorage (ANC), where it made a tech stop before continuing to Chicago (ORD). The new DWC-HAN-ANC-ORD-DWC rotation will operate once a week, with a 777F starting the pattern at DWC every Sunday, a spokesperson at Emirates SkyCargo confirmed to Cargo Facts. The carrier monitors market conditions across its global network to ensure that it matches freight capacity with demand, the spokesperson said. ANC has long been a popular stop along many trans-Pacific widebody-freighter routes operated by Asian and North American carrier, and is among the busiest airports worldwide for international freighter traffic. In fact, it handled approximately 3.9 million tonnes of cargo in 2025, making it the third-busiest, according to Airports Council International. “ANC has been working with Emirates SkyCargo for several years and we are very proud to see those efforts come to fruition,” Angie Spear, Alaska International Airport System director, told Cargo Facts . “Building new international cargo service takes time and requires close coordination with the airline, our industry partners and airport stakeholders,” she said. “Emirates’ decision to operate through Anchorage reinforces the airport’s role as one of the world’s premier cargo hubs.” Spear declined to say which other freighter services the airport is pursuing, mentioning only that air service development is an ongoing effort and that ANC is continually engaging with carriers to identify opportunities. “Our focus remains on strengthening existing relationships while pursuing strategic opportunities that enhance global connectivity, support Alaska’s economy, and provide long-term value to the airport system and our customers,” she said. For Emirates, the trans-Pacific route is another addition to its freighter network, which has grown by more than twenty destinations this year, it said last month. The expansion partly has been enabled by more freighters coming online. Emirates has received six new 777Fs so far this year, along with its first 777-300ERSF conversion , which entered revenue service on July 1. Five additional 777Fs and one more 777-300ERSF will join the fleet by yearend, Emirates said last month.
