MJets Air adds first 737-800F route to UAE

Malaysia’s MJets Air has launched a weekly narrowbody freighter route connecting Malaysia and India with the United Arab Emirates. The new flight is the carrier's first route to the UAE and is the destination farthest from its hub in Kuala Lumpur (KUL), MJets Air Chief Executive Ahmad Luqman confirmed to Cargo Facts . [caption id="attachment_57298531" align="aligncenter" width="1097"] MJets operates four 737-800Fs and two 737-400Fs.(Courtesy/Malaysia Airports)[/caption] MJets Air’s 2007-vintage unit 32690 — one of four 737-800BCFs in its fleet — first operated the route on July 26, flying from KUL to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and then to Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) before returning to KUL via BOM. The route flies once weekly on an ACMI basis for Malaysia-based general sales agent Menteiz Aviation Services and its India-based subsidiary, Menteiz Air Cargo GSA, a spokesperson for Menteiz Air Cargo GSA told Cargo Facts . The flight will continue through the end of the month, the spokesperson said. In addition to DWC, MJets Air plans to launch multiple routes , Luqman said. The carrier already operates regular flights to Macau (MFM) and Hong Kong (HKG) using its 737-800BCFs. Fleet adjustments MJets Air’s fleet, which includes two 737-400SFs and four 737-800BCFs, has undergone shifts since the beginning of this year. The carrier in January told Cargo Facts that it would soon begin flying an Aerostan 747-200SF (23111) under its own AOC, and was considering adding another of the type. However, in May, the carrier said it was no longer planning to take the 747-200SF and also removed a 737-800BCF (29760) from its fleet, citing factors including difficulty raising the $25.9 million required to acquire it and a shift from a narrowbody-only freighter strategy to a mix of narrowbody and widebody freighters, MJets Air’s parent, MMAG Holdings, said in its May 26 financial report.
