Lodige certifications open doors for Asia-Pacific air cargo projects

Lodige Industries Asia Ltd., a Hong Kong subsidiary of global logistics systems provider Lodige Industries, was recently awarded ISO certifications for quality, environment and health and safety management, providing the Germany-based company with an opportunity to secure new projects in air cargo and other government-sponsored segments. Photo courtesy of Lodige.[/caption] There will be significant growth in the utilities and transportation segments in Hong Kong in the coming years, Nicholas Tripptree, managing director of the Lodige Industries for Asia-Pacific, told Air Cargo World . Since the Mass Transit Railway transport network in Hong Kong is a government-run entity, the triple certification was necessary for the company to be awarded projects in those segments. “If we didn't have the initiative, let's say a year and a half ago, to pursue this ISO certification, then we wouldn't be in the game,” Tripptree said. Lodige Asia, which was established in 2004, completed one air cargo project in Shanghai just over two years ago, and another project for the new airport in Chengdu, China, was recently awarded to the company in the second quarter of 2020, Tripptree said. The company is looking to secure four additional, larger airfreight-related projects in China this year, he added. Airport centers in Shanghai are expected to undergo significant changes during the next 20 years, including cargo projects and retrofitting buildings, said Tripptree when asked about the current stage of airport projects. “Personally, I believe a lot of our future — let’s say the next five years — most of our business in China will probably be around air cargo," Tripptree said. Aside from the cargo-related projects in mainland China, Lodige has secured additional upgrade projects in Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai, as well as cargo-related projects in Australia. Lodige Asia has also been awarded a few local projects based on its automation technology, although these were not entirely related to air cargo. The logistics company’s customers are “looking to automate a lot more than before, so semi-automated systems are now becoming fully automated,” said Tripptree. “With our new technologies, it will be interesting to see what comes up in the future.” Lodige Industries was established in 1948 and is a major global presence through its regional subsidiaries. The logistics provider works with a variety of cargo handling companies, including Switzerland-based Swissport, and was recently selected by Dubai-based cargo handler dnata for a modernization project in Singapore at Changi Airport (SIN).
