Poland, Miami stakeholders seek to establish MIA as trade hub

Amber Route Logistics, a consortium of Poland and Miami-based stakeholders, is aiming to increase connectivity between Poland and the Americas by establishing Miami as a trade hub and air and ocean gateway between Central Europe and the Americas. Amber Route Logistics stakeholders are comprised of consulting and investment groups to multimodal logistics service providers, technology manufacturers and others, according to a company brochure. Companies include Polrydian Group, a consulting firm that aims to bridge Central and Eastern Europe with the Americas, Pangea International Logistics, DP Logistics and market and investment analyst Tier Investments, among others. [caption id="attachment_94396" align="alignright" width="441"] Photo/Miami International Airport[/caption] “We are creating a trade hub with logistical capabilities to help establish Polish producers … in the U.S. market and later on extending to other countries,” Patrick Misiewicz, managing director of Florida-based Polrydian Group, told Air Cargo World . “We also want to bring a Florida hub into Poland and start bringing products there.” While mode of transportation depends on the type of products being shipped, Misiewicz noted that commodities being transported via airfreight include luxury perishable products, such as berries and flowers, and engine parts for planes in need of maintenance or repairs. “There are a lot of sensitive products that need to be shipped as soon as possible, and that’s where we are looking to focus,” he said. “For example, Poland has a big presence [in the] aviation sector … and they’re shipping those parts to Miami because Miami has a big repair facility.” As more stakeholders move supply chains from Asia due to rising prices and ongoing operational disruptions, there will be more investments in other regions to support logistics growth, Misiewicz noted. "A lot of people are ending investing in Asia, and they’re moving down to Central Europe or Central America … and further away from the danger of being in Asia. And the invasion [by] Russia in Ukraine [is] going to speed up this process,” he said. Ukraine crisis leads to Poland airfreight uptick As a result of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Poland is growing as an airfreight hub, Marcin Dabek, a board member at Poland-based Pangea International Logistics, told Air Cargo World . In addition to delivering humanitarian aid to Ukraine , Pangea International Logistics also prepares commercial airfreight export shipments for its Ukrainian partners to deliver to destinations across the Atlantic Ocean, he noted. “For a number of months [we noticed] shortages of containers and prices of freight showed that new initiatives may be needed,” Dabek said. “Seeing a [change] in global economy and geopolitics, we joined the initiative to build new logistics connections between Poland and … Miami as a suitable hub, not only for the U.S. [but] for Central and South America.” Dabek further noted that the next step is to open a subsidiary in Miami as a representative for U.S. operations. Poland’s market value is currently estimated at roughly $551 billion, with sectors including agriculture, energy, technology, construction and manufacturing, according to Polrydian Group’s website. MIA ranked No. 10 in Air Cargo World ’s most recent Top 50 Cargo Airports ranking, based on 2020 tonnage, but fell from the top 10 ranking based on 2021 throughput, according to preliminary results from Airports Council International.
