Apex Logistics expands Los Angeles presence

China-based Apex Logistics is expanding its Southern California footprint, bolstering its status as a trans-Pacific e-commerce player with a larger facility near Los Angeles International (LAX).

“Our warehouse in the old facility [was] too small to receive the large volumes of cargo we were receiving,” said Apex’s senior vice president of corporate business development and customs brokerage, Mike Piza. The new warehouse is 100,000 square feet – three times the size of its predecessor.

Piza also said the Los Angeles location will have a “new cooler facility ready around end of October or early November,” which will measure 16,000 square feet and be a Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF) – a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) accreditation.

Apex has reported substantial growth in the past two years. The company made Air Cargo World’s Power 25 list for the first time for its 2016 performance, ranking No. 21 on the list, and rose another two ranks, to No. 19, during 2017, in which its airfreight division grew 24 percent to 320,000 tonnes from 2016.

The company told Air Cargo World it plans to continue to expand its United States presence by moving into larger Chicago and New York facilities by the end of 2018 or early 2019.
