Congestion at the Heathrow Airport’s cargo center has gotten so bad that local police are now turning away vehicles, prompting complaints from U.K.-based forwarders that they are “enduring misery on a daily basis,” according to Robert Keen, the British International Freight Association’s (BIFA) director general.
In a letter published today on BIFA’s website, Keen said that a plan to minimize the impact of emissions caused by freight vehicles around the airport included steps to reduce congestion, however the BIFA director general warned that with airfreight volumes now growing in the double digits, immediate action was required.
“Our members, who currently are enduring misery on a daily basis when using the airport’s cargo center, want action not words,” Keen said.
