AeroMexico Cargo seeks CEIV Pharma, Fresh certifications

AeroMéxico Cargo plans to pursue IATA’s CEIV Pharma and Fresh certifications for pharmaceutical and perishable shipments, Getulio Centanaro, VP Americas, AeroMéxico Cargo, said.

Although Centanaro did not provide a timeline for the certifications, he said that heightened customer requirements have led the carrier to “to improve and want to create a different experience where we can guarantee that we’re delivering the best product to the market.”

Because pharmaceutical shipments are both high-value and temperature-sensitive, freight forwarders, shippers and end-customers all tend to take an active approach to monitoring such shipments. Centanaro said AeroMéxico’s major gateways in Los Angeles (LAX) and Mexico City (MEX) already have robust infrastructure and adequate storage space for perishables shipments, but certifications provide “that extra” reassurance to customers, “so there’s much more reliability on the cold-chain for all of our customers.”

Regarding the Fresh certification, Centanaro said the perishables market is “steadily growing and it will keep growing in Mexico.” To accommodate the market, aside from pursuing the certification, AeroMéxico is also working to develop additional ground infrastructure.

Centanaro will join the panel “Pan-American cargo: Matching capacity to cargo demand” at this year’s Cargo Facts Symposium, to be held Oct. 16-18 at the InterContinental San Diego. To register and for more information visit www.cargofactssymposium.com.
