Allivate to further develop FRA, Dakosy cargo community system

German software provider Dakosy and airport operator Fraport established a joint venture this year to advance digitalization within the air cargo community, specifically at airports. [caption id="attachment_97719" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/Frankfurt Airport)[/caption] Dakosy and Fraport, which operates Frankfurt Airport (FRA), each hold a 50% share of the venture, Allivate , according to a release from Fraport. Allivate aims to establish, operate and develop air cargo community systems. Cargo community systems (CCS) are open platforms that airports and stakeholders use to collect and share information about cargo shipments as well as optimize operations. Allivate’s main task now is to improve and expand the FAIR@Link cargo community system (CCS), which is used by FRA and Hamburg Airport (HAM), and market it to other airports. “A functioning digital infrastructure is a must-have for every modern cargo hub,” Martina Schikorr , co-managing director of Allivate, said in the release. “We want to offer our customers the best cargo community system possible so that their processes will run simply, smoothly and quickly.” Schikorr, senior cargo digitalization manager at Fraport, manages Allivate alongside Dirk Gladiator , authorized officer at Dakosy. “FAIR@Link is the neutral digital air cargo community platform for airports, which all companies involved in handling processes — in particular handling agents, freight forwarders, truckers and airlines — can use to speed up and optimize their import and export transport and freight processes,” Gladiator told Air Cargo Next . “Since 2012, the platform has been continuously developed by representatives of the participating sectors.” Developed by Dakosy with Fraport, a pilot of the CCS launched in January 2015, according to Gladiator, with partners including: Freight forwarders Dachser , Kuehne+Nagel and Panalpina ; Handling agents LUG aircargo handling and FCS Frankfurt Cargo Services ; and Carrier Lufthansa Cargo . After completing the FAIR@Link pilot at FRA, the CCS was launched at HAM in October 2019 and today has more than 1,000 participating companies, Gladiator said. FRA ranks 13th on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with a throughput of nearly 2 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. HAM did not make the list. 3 areas for improvement “In recent years, many operational processes have been digitalized and an enormous amount of data has been compiled as a result,” Gladiator said. “Thanks to this extensive database, it is now possible to develop a wide range of additional digital applications. Gladiator and Schikorr have identified three specific areas in which FAIR@Link processes can be further streamlined and optimized, according to the release. Those three areas, according to Gladiator, are: Making it easier to fulfill customs requirements; Further automating customs processes; and Further digitalizing cargo pickup and delivery processes To make the customs process easier, Allivate is compiling customs information, found in ICS2 declarations and other databases, to auto-populate forms. “Just a small amount of additional information, such as the vehicle license plate number and the seal number of the respective seal, remains to be added by the freight forwarders,” Gladiator said. Allivate is also working to automate the customs process in applicable situations by drawing on the ICS2 declarations database, Gladiator said. This is especially important as FRA has become an e-commerce hub , he said. As for cargo pickup and delivery, Allivate is working to reduce manual processes and physical paperwork. “One example of this is the digital pickup authorization, which is currently being drafted,” Gladiator said. “At present, the collection order in its paper form is physically transported by the handling agent via the freight forwarder and often by the trucker as well. In the future, all necessary data for this process will be provided by FAIR@Link.
