Michelle Williams, director of strategy, planning and implementation at Southwest Airlines Cargo, will join a panel discussion on carrier business models at Cargo Facts Symposium 2021.

Williams is responsible for leading the strategic planning, project delivery, data and analytics and technology for Southwest Airlines’ Cargo and Charters Team.

The panel session she will be joining is titled, “Capacity in flux: rethinking combination carrier business models,” and will be presented at 11:30 am on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Wynn Las Vegas.

Panelists will explore the current state of capacity and demand, whether cabin modifications and technologies that increase utilization of passenger aircraft stick and cargo’s role within passenger operations beyond recovery. Panelists will also discuss where they think additional freighter investment is required.

Recently, Southwest Cargo announced it was collaborating with U.S.-based logistics technology provider Hangar A to launch advanced online booking capabilities through its new swacargo.com portal. Shippers can secure space in advance on domestic flights within the continental U.S. and book select Next Flight Guarantee (NFG) shipments up to 100 lbs. ten days in advance.

Last year, Southwest Airlines began offering cargo-only charter flights using its fleet of 737 passenger aircraft. Cargo is shipped in aircraft bellies, while pilots and other Southwest employees are the only people onboard the charter flights.

The panel will also include experts from Alaska Air Cargo, Eastern Airlines and LATAM Cargo.

Cargo Facts Symposium, taking place LIVE Oct. 25-27 at the Wynn Las Vegas, is the essential event for stakeholders in the air cargo industry. Learn more and register at www.cargofactssymposium.com.
