DHL engages Awesome Cargo for A330-200P2F ACMI

Mexico-based Awesome Cargo has started an ACMI arrangement with its A330-200P2Fs on behalf of DHL Express for the first time. The operation supplies supplementary capacity during peak season, a spokesperson for DHL Express told Cargo Facts . (Courtesy/Awesome Cargo)[/caption] Awesome’s 2011-vintage unit 1225 started the operation on Sept. 7, flying from Mexico City (NLU) to Cincinnati (CVG), then to Leipzig (LEJ). Awesome obtained Third Country Operator approval from the European Union this year, Chief Executive Luis Ramos told Cargo Facts. Awesome Cargo began widebody-freighter operations last year . The carrier’s fleet consists of three A330-200P2F conversions , and it is targeting as many as six of the type, although Ramos said aircraft availability is limited. An awesome year This has been a milestone year for Awesome Cargo. The carrier in May completed its first ACMI arrangement for Avianca Cargo , carrying flowers ahead of Mother’s Day. Altogether, Avianca’s nine dedicated freighters and ACMI capacity on carriers such as Awesome moved 19,000 tonnes of blooms this year. Then, in June, it launched a regular charter operation connecting NLU with Ezhou (EHU) via Anchorage (ANC) and Seoul (ICN) on behalf of Kuehne+Nagel subsidiary Apex Logistics. The carrier continues to look for more long-term arrangements for its A330-200P2Fs, Ramos said. Awesome Cargo in July was among carriers that flew humanitarian aid to Caracas, Venezuela (CCS), in the wake of earthquakes, and in August it completed its first C check on its own A330-200P2F (1252). The earthquakes on July 24 killed about 5,000 people and both were above magnitude 7. The carrier’s NLU facility will soon obtain certification as an FAA 145 repair station, allowing it to perform work on U.S.-registered aircraft, Ramos previously told Cargo Facts .
