Cargo-only Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK), based in Lockbourne, Ohio, is expanding further, with the launch of services by logistics, transportation and supply chain management provider, Morrison Express. From its 90,000-square-foot container freight station (CFS), Morrison is able to reach more than 70 percent of the population of the United States and Canada population within two days via standard less-than-truckload shipments.
Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and Cargolux are now making multiple 100-tonne flights per week directly in and out of LCK, bypassing traditional, more expensive, congested gateways such as New York or Chicago. “Our entrance into Rickenbacker was very much through the backdoor of a particular client,” said Cathay Pacific’s director of freight, Mark Sutch. “We were able to bring in 50 tonnes a few times per week from Hong Kong on the back of an extended service from Chicago.”.
With major retail brands, such as Victoria’s Secret, Pink, Bath & Body Works, Henri Bendel and La Senza, located nearby, central Ohio is a magnet for fashion imports from Europe and Asia. “When it comes to freight, turnaround time is everything, and both our clients and airline partners rely on seamless and expedited processes,” said Tony Medeiros, vice president and general manager of the Americas for Morrison Express. “Rickenbacker is an optimal distribution location for many global brands, and our ability to service their needs was a driving factor in partnering with the CFS facility there.”
