Cargo Facts Asia 2016 has added yet another key speaker to its “E-commerce Explosion and Air Freight” panel: Steven Li, Director of Cross-Border E-Commerce Logistics for Cainiao.
It is widely known that e-commerce in China owes much of its success to the most renowned of Cainiao’s founding partners, Alibaba, which launched the company with a 48 percent stake. Over the next ten years, Cainiao hopes to do for logistics what Alibaba has done for e-commerce. That is, use its cloud-based, big data-fueled ecosystem built out of Alibaba technologies to plug into the services of multi-modal logistics partners throughout China and across the globe to seamlessly, and rapidly move packages. This would be an alternative model to one currently deployed by global express companies.
At year three, Cainiao already handles a staggering 70 percent of all express packages within China. All indicators point towards Cainiao’s international expansion, and we are honored that Steven Li has joined our e-commerce panel. Mr. Li will share his insights about the impact of e-commerce in China on the logistics industry and, in particular, the cross-border logistics sector. Steven is no ‘cainiao’ (which means rookie in Mandarin) to the logistics field, prior to joining Cainiao he held posts at FedEx, PayPal and 4PX Logistics.
Mr. Li rounds out a complementary ‘e-commerce explosion and airfreight panel,’ which already includes:
- Rich Corrado, the Chief Commercial Officer of Air Transport Services Group (ATSG). ATSG has recently been in the news for its growing partnership with Alibaba’s US-based rival, Amazon, and separately for its new joint-venture airline in China which aims to support the express industry;
- Dr. Karen Reddington, President of FedEx Express Asia Pacific, leads the overall planning and implementation of corporate strategies and operations across more than 30 markets and territories that make up the APAC region;
- David Su, Chairman of YTO Express Airlines which is a fellow Alibaba affiliate, and one of Cainiao’s 14 key logistics partners;
- Stan Wraight, the Senior Executive Director of Hong Kong-based Strategic Aviation Solutions (SASI). SASI is engaged in global consulting and management services for airlines, airports, international trade organizations and financial institutions.
Cargo Facts Asia 2016 will be held in Hong Kong 19 – 20 April, at the Langham Hotel. To register, or for more information, go to www.cargofactsasia.com.
