LUG aircargo to assume JAL’s cargo operations at Frankfurt

LUG aircargo handling will take over Japan Airlines’ (JAL) customer portfolio in Frankfurt on July 1.  According to a memo jointly released by LUG and JAL, the former will handle the belly cargo of JAL’s daily 777-300ER and 787-900 operations to and from Frankfurt, as well as road-feeder services for JAL Cargo.

Patrik Tschirch, managing director and CEO for LUG aircargo handling, said he expects to see volume rise to between 800 and 1,000 tonnes per month. He also explained that his company would benefit from JAL Cargo’s global network, which will expand the footprint of the ground handling company. JAL also cooperates with British Airways, another of LUG’s customers.

LUG is a member of the Dettmer Group, which provides cargo handling services at Frankfurt and Munich airports. The company handled more than 300,000 tonnes of cargo in 2015. It also operates 33,000 square meters of warehousing space at Frankfurt and 3,300 square meters at Munich.
