HUB logistics to automate €80-million Finnair Cargo terminal [VIDEO]

Finnair has chosen HUB logistics to automate its new €80-million COOL Nordic Cargo facility at Helsinki Airport. The 37,000-square-meter warehouse opens May 2017, with HUB logistics Finland spending the remaining eight months ensuring a smooth transition and optimized usage of the automated terminal.

The agreement also signals the end of Finnair’s partnership with the current terminal operator, Suomen Transval Oy, however employees at the Finnair Cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport will transfer to Kerava-based HUB logistics, the airline announced.

Finnair recently made news with a €20 million cost-cutting program, and has been steadily growing its A350 fleet. The new jets will boost cargo capacity by 50 percent when the final plane is delivered in 2020. In addition, the automated warehouse will be, “a great opportunity for us to significantly increase the volumes of cargo at our Helsinki hub,” explained Janne Tarvainen, managing director at Finnair Cargo.

The new facility features cargo-handling areas for pharmaceutical and life-science products, as well as perishable products, such as seafood.
