Atlas to operate 747-400F for Nippon Cargo Airlines on CMI basis

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings will operate a 747-400F for Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) on a CMI basis, beginning January 2017, with the option for more aircraft in the future. The initial contract provides for one aircraft to be flown along key global routes across the transpacific, connecting Asia and the United States.

Under a CMI leasing arrangement, Atlas Air, one of AAWW’s subsidiary carriers, is responsible for providing crew, maintenance and insurance. In this case, the 747-400F belongs to NCA. This sort of deal can allow a carrier to take advantage of routes that other operators have rights to.

This brings the number of 747-400Fs in the Atlas Air fleet to twenty-two. The carrier also has two 747-400BCFs.
