MasAir to become first carrier with both A330P2F variants

Mexico-based MasAir will introduce another freighter type to its fleet with the A330-300P2F and lease two units from CDB Aviation, with delivery in early 2022 [ FATs 006252-6253 ]. MasAir, which recently announced a lease order with Altavair for two A330-200P2Fs , will likely become the first to operate both the -200 and the -300 variants of Elbe Flugzeugwerke’s (EFW) A330P2F freighter conversion program. The carrier told Cargo Facts that it had already planned to add the larger model when it signed the -200 agreement, and that it wanted to take advantage of the flexibility of the A330 family to assign the right aircraft to the right mission, with the -300P2Fs offering more volume and the -200P2Fs offering more range capability. (Photo/CDB Aviation)[/caption] The -300P2F pair will be the first A330F placements for CDB Aviation, which formally entered the medium-widebody freighter market in November 2020 by announcing a conversion order for two ex-China Southern A330-300s . The lessor ferried the first unit (958) to EFW’s facility in Dresden (DRS) in late April for induction and confirmed to Cargo Facts that it will soon also induct the second (964), currently parked in Beijing (PKX). Both aircraft were built in 2008 and have Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines. At the time of the announcement, CDB had told Cargo Facts that it was in advanced discussions with a number of potential lessees. The lessor recently said at Cargo Facts Asia that it sees much potential in the A330-300P2F and plans to increase its order book with EFW. 2022 will be a particularly busy year for MasAir in terms of fleet additions, given that it will also take delivery of the Altavair duo in the first quarter. Apart from being the first operator of both A330-200P2Fs and A330-300P2Fs, MasAir currently also operates a 767-200BDSF (22788, ex-West Atlantic), a 767-300BDSF (24853, ex-ABX Air) and a production 767-300F (34627). For its part, EFW is close to completing an A330-300 that arrived in July 2020 (713, ex-Air Asia X) and told Cargo Facts it expects to redeliver that aircraft by the end of June to aircraft management firm Stratos. EFW is also working on two other A330-300s: unit 1477 (ex-Hi Fly), a DHL Express aircraft that arrived at DRS at the end of November 2020; and unit 879 (ex-China Southern Airlines), which MNG Airlines sent to DRS on March 30 as part of a two-unit conversion order.
