Rise Air adds ATR 42-500 Combi

Canada-based Rise Air will soon put into operation an ATR 42-500 that it recently converted into combi configuration for cargo and passenger transport in Northern Canada. The 1998-vintage aircraft (576, ex-Kam Air) was converted to offer a larger cargo area than the airline’s existing Saab 340A fleet, Rise Air told Cargo Facts. (Photo/Rise Air)[/caption] Unit 576 joins five other ATR 42s in passenger configuration, along with three Saab 340As and at least two De Havilland Twin Otters, in the Rise Air fleet. The airline, which recently purchased an ATR 42-500 (625) from Hawaiian Airlines and sent it to Dinard (DNR), France, late last month, said that the aircraft is there to undergo maintenance and inspection. Rise Air added that it has no plans for full freighters in the near term but did not rule out the possibility in the future. Rise Air said that it had selected the combi model for the ATR 42-500 due to the geography of Canada. The airline also recently completed upgrades to its first De Havilland Twin Otter (492, ex-Osprey Wings). The 1976-vintage aircraft received several updates, including folding passenger seats that allow for improved cargo capacity. With the addition of unit 576 to its fleet, Rise Air joins several Canadian airlines that operate combi-configured aircraft to serve cargo and passenger demand in isolated regions of Northern Canada. Ottawa-headquartered Canadian North will soon take redelivery of a 737-400F previously in combi configuration that was modified into a full freighter at the PEMCO facility in Tampa (TPA). Canadian North still operates two 737-400s, two 737-300s, a 737-200 and at least one ATR 42 in combi configuration. Canadian North also recently leased an ATR 72-500F from ACIA Aero Leasing , with the aircraft (719, ex-Solenta Aviation) entering the Canadian Aircraft registry in February.
