Third US 777 conversion site to begin in 2024

The Ascent Aviation Services facility at Pinal Air Park in Marana, Ariz. (MZJ) will become a conversion site for IAI’s 777-300ERSF program, the third MRO in the United States to host conversion lines for the Boeing large-widebody twinjet. Ascent expects the first induction to take place mid-2024, the MRO told Cargo Facts , adding that it is constructing two new hangars adjacent to its existing hangars to house two conversion lines. (Photo/Ascent Aviation Services)[/caption] IAI, which is working toward certification of its prototype 777-300ERSF (32789, ex-Emirates) at its own base in Tel Aviv (TLV) and has started converting two more units , has said it also intends to expand conversion capacity by using the Etihad Engineering facility in Abu Dhabi (AUH) and the Sharp Technics K facility in Seoul (ICN). IAI recently told Cargo Facts that it expects to resume test flights with unit 32789 soon. The aircraft has not flown since its first post-conversion flight in March. With the addition of Ascent at MZJ, the U.S. will be home to three 777 conversion sites, one for each program. Kansas Modification Center is working on its 777-300ERCF at McConnell Air Force Base (IAB) in Wichita, while Mammoth Freighters recently cut metal on its second 777-200LRMF at the Aspire MRO facility at Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW) and expects to do the same on its first 777-300ERMF conversion soon. KMC plans to continue expanding at IAB, and Mammoth has selected the STS Aviation Services facility in Manchester (MAN), England, as its next conversion site. Ascent also operates a facility in Tucson (TUS), where Sine Draco said it inducted its conformity A321-200SDF conversion in October 2021.
