UPS, InterGlobe announce joint venture MOVIN

UPS and travel conglomerate InterGlobe Enterprises last week announced MOVIN, a new joint venture that will service the India market. The partnership will not involve InterGlobe’s low-cost carrier IndiGo, which is India’s largest passenger airline and cargo carrier. “The cargo arrangement between InterGlobe and UPS has nothing to do with us — that’s a standalone operation,” IndiGo Chief Executive Ronojoy Dutta said during the company’s earnings call last week. “They have their own agreements which have no impact on IndiGo.” [caption id="attachment_57065484" align="alignright" width="563"] Photo/UPS[/caption] InterGlobe is IndiGo's largest shareholder with a nearly 38% stake. The carrier’s fleet of close to 280 aircraft operates 1,500 daily flights on domestic and international routes. The airline is planning to acquire four converted A321 freighter aircraft with the first scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2022 and the remainder within a year. IndiGo’s cargo revenue grew by more than 31% for the fiscal year ended March 31, according to the earnings presentation. Stakeholders bolster operations in India MOVIN, whose name combines “Movement” and “India,” will offer express and premium service across India with service to Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru to begin in July with further expansion to follow, according to a release. See also : Regional Pulse: India capacity supported by Gulf carrier connectivity In November 2021, UPS launched B747 flights connecting India directly to Europe and to North and Latin American markets, doubling its previous export capacity for Indian small and medium enterprises. India is also an important growth market for FedEx, which at the end of last year finalized a strategic alliance with fast-growing Indian firm Delhivery. Under the agreement, FedEx Express focuses on international services to and from India while Delhivery sells FedEx Express international products and services in the India market while providing pickup and delivery services across India. DHL is also enlarging its footprint in India with a 2021 investment of €22 million ($23.6 million) in the expansion of its Bengaluru Gateway (BLR). This has created additional capacity for international e-commerce shipments and enabled the operation of 17 dedicated weekly international freighter flights.
