People: New appointments within air cargo industry

Big players in the air cargo industry have made several key appointments in the past month. Drew to lead transformation at Atlas [caption id="attachment_57138486" align="alignright" width="295"] Martin Drew[/caption] Atlas Air Worldwide appointed Martin Drew as chief strategy and transformation officer, effective Sept. 25. In his oversight of corporate strategy, Drew will seek to drive strategic growth and diversification across Atlas’ services, geographic footprint and partnerships, according to a company release. “Martin is a highly recognized leader in aviation and will be an incredible asset to our team as we leverage our diversified business model, unrivaled global network and best-in-class assets for long-term success,” Atlas Chief Executive Michael Steen said in the release. Drew most recently served as senior vice president of global sales, marketing, brand and cargo at Etihad Airways , and prior to that as vice president of cargo in Mumbai for Jet Airways , an Etihad subsidiary, and vice president of Europe and the Americas for Etihad. He has also held senior positions at Lufthansa and DAS Air Cargo . BlueBox appoints Khan as global sales manager [caption id="attachment_57138493" align="alignright" width="300"] Usman Khan[/caption] Bonn, Germany-based airfreight tracking solutions provider BlueBox Systems has appointed Usman Khan as global sales manager, a role in which he will develop new sales strategies, acquire new customers, optimize sales processes and find new markets, according to a Sept. 5 company release. The startup develops airfreight tracking solutions and integrates collected data in one location. The company uses a cloud-based platform that allows customers to process real-time data regarding their air cargo shipments “It is very important for me to gain a deep understanding of our customer’s pain points and offer guidance to navigate and overcome these challenges,” Khan said in the release. “I see huge potential in the product offering of BlueBox Systems and I want to help realize that potential.” Khan started his career in logistics in 2016 as a business development executive at Rhenus Logistics and most recently worked as a global account executive for freight tracking solutions provider Vizion API . Kirchner heads global sales for Finnair Cargo [caption id="attachment_57138469" align="alignright" width="300"] Anna-Maria Kirchner[/caption] Anna-Maria Kirchner joined Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL)-based carrier Finnair Cargo as head of global sales, effective Sept. 15. She previously worked as a manager for global sales and business development for Emirates and a senior manager for Air Berlin . “As we are looking to strengthen our sales team and develop our product and digital solutions to our customers, Anna-Maria is a valuable addition to the team with her background in both sales and development,” Finnair Cargo Senior Vice President Gabriela Hiitola said in a company release. Halleux joins Swissport as CCO [caption id="attachment_57138479" align="alignright" width="300"] Guillaume Halleux[/caption] Guillaume Halleux joined Swissport International AG as chief commercial officer and a member of its executive leadership team, effective Sept. 18. He will execute Swissport’s commercial agenda in developing existing client relationships and building new ones, and will drive the acquisition of new business, according to a company release. Halleux brings more than 25 years’ experience in the industry and joins Swissport from Qatar Airways Cargo , where he served as chief officer of cargo in the airline’s Doha head office. Prior to that, he served Qatar’s vice president of cargo in the Asia Pacific region. Van Stekelenburg helms MST as interim CEO [caption id="attachment_57138481" align="alignright" width="300"] Jonas van Stekelenburg[/caption] Jonas van Stekelenburg has assumed the role of interim chief executive at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) in the Netherlands, where he will spearhead initiatives for enhanced sustainability, digitalization, and cargo and passenger development. He takes over the role from former CEO Jos Roeven . Van Stekelenburg previously worked at Royal Schiphol Group , which overseeing Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), from 2002 to 2018, and has served as an adviser to numerous clients, including MST, in recent years. “Our strategy is focused on delivering a resilient, sustainable and environmentally conscious airport for the local community and its future,” van Stekelenburg said in a release. “I thank my predecessor, Jos Roeven, for the great job he did, which has led to the strong foundation upon which we can now build. Moving forward, we are dedicated to furthering the sustainable evolution of MST’s operations and advancing both our passenger and cargo services.” Gomez, Leipold join Wing leadership team [caption id="attachment_57138487" align="alignright" width="174"] Martin Gomez[/caption] [caption id="attachment_57138475" align="alignright" width="300"] Cosimo Leipold[/caption] Mountain View, Calif.-based delivery drone provider Wing has appointed Martin Gomez as chief technology officer and Cosimo Leipold as global head of partnerships. Gomez will help lead Wing’s technology teams, specifically focusing on flight automation and software, according to a company release. He has worked as an engineer and technical leader for 40 years in the fields of uncrewed aircraft systems, spacecraft and embedded systems development, most recently serving as senior chief engineer at Aurora Flight Sciences . Meanwhile, Leipold will lead Wing’s business-to-business expansion efforts and partnerships with other organizations working toward multimodal delivery. He joins Wing after seven years at Nuro , an on-road autonomous delivery company, where he was a founding member. Docherty to head trade sales in MEA region for Cathay [caption id="attachment_57138491" align="alignright" width="300"] Shanna Docherty[/caption] Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific has appointed Shanna Docherty as regional head of trade sales for the Middle East and Africa region. Docherty is responsible for identifying new business opportunities and optimizing revenue across the airline’s channel partners, according to a company release. Docherty has been an advocate for the empowerment of women in the aviation sector since joining Cathay Pacific in 2019 as cargo manager, according to the release. She has 14 years of industry experience, and previously served in roles at Virgin Atlantic , Air France and KLM .
