Digital Pulse: Pledge makes emissions measurement more transparent

London-based emissions measurement platform provider Pledge last week launched software solution Accuracy, which enables freight forwarders to provide clients with Data Quality Indicator levels as part of their shipment emissions measurements. (Courtesy/Pledge)[/caption] Data Quality Indicator (DQI) levels, developed in accordance with Smart Freight Centre (SFC) guidance, evaluate the quality of data and data sources used to calculate emissions, thereby communicating how confident shippers can be in their emissions estimates, according to a release from Pledge. The SFC is a nonprofit organization committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation. The DQI level, generated by Accuracy for each shipment, ranks the quality of the input data into four tiers: Excellent; Good; Sufficient; and Unsatisfactory. “Shippers are looking for freight partners who can offer transparent and actionable insights into their supply chain emissions, and it’s becoming increasingly common for shippers to compare forwarders based on their ability to provide quality sustainability data when putting business up for tender,” Andre Mohamed , chief product officer and co-founder at Pledge, said in the release. Breeze integrates with Barrington London-based digital cargo insurance provider Breeze has integrated its platform into Basildon, U.K.-based shipping and freight forwarding firm Barrington Freight ’s website, according to a release from Breeze. Breeze’s AI-driven platform streamlines insurance quote generation, policy binding and claims processing into online booking, reducing the time and human effort typically needed. “As the logistics industry continues to evolve, making use of digital insurance solutions sets a new industry standard to give shippers and carriers access to simplified, cost-effective and comprehensive cargo insurance that provides peace of mind and financial security,” Breeze Chief Executive Eyal Goldberg said in the release. The platform removes the need to source insurance separately and streamlines claims processing. “Our previous providers kept claims pending for months, but now we are seeing claims resolved within hours,” Barrington Operations Director Simon Poole said in the release. Kiosks to enhance import collections Cargo handler Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd. (Hactl) announced this week it is opening 12 automated service kiosks (ASKs) to speed the collection of import cargo from its SuperTerminal 1 facility at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). (Courtesy/Hactl)[/caption] According to a release from Hactl, the current paper-based process for import collection requires: The freight agents or consignees to collect a shipment release form (SRF) from the airline; The SRF bearer to present the form in-person to Hactl personnel at the Hactl imports reception counter; The Hactl personnel to verify the SRF bearer’s identity against their identification documents and check the form’s authenticity; The Hactl personnel to trigger the physical release of the cargo via COSAC-Plus, Hactl’s cargo management system; The Hactl personnel to hand-write the form bearer’s name, ID number and time of SRF presentation on the SRF; and The SRF bearer to present the SRF at one of the terminal’s cargo collection points. Hactl processes about 1,000 SRFs daily, according to the release. Under the new system, the SRF bearer visits an ASK near the cargo pickup areas and presents their ID to the kiosk, which authenticates the SRF bearer’s identity and the SRF’s validity, records details of the shipment’s collection and triggers the release of cargo via COSAC-Plus. Also, if the cargo is unitized, the ASK displays a pick-list from which the SRF bearer can select the pieces to be collected, in order of priority, according to the release. All personal identifiable information collected by the system is encrypted, then purged after a set period to protect privacy, the release stated. “The old import release system is labor-intensive and often causes queues at peak times,” Hactl Executive Director of Operations Paul Cheng said in the release. “Manual checking of IDs and completion of the SRFs by hand under pressure also have the potential for errors.”
