Digital Pulse: Cathay Cargo Terminal uses e-forms for import collection

Hong Kong International Airport-based Cathay Cargo Terminal this week began using electronic shipment release forms, digitalizing and accelerating the import collection process. [caption id="attachment_57140084" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/Cathay Cargo)[/caption] Electronic shipment release forms (eSRF) are more efficient, secure, transparent and sustainable than paper forms, according to a Jan. 31 release from the cargo terminal operator. Cathay Cargo Terminal is the first operator to implement eSRFs at the airport (HKG) and has integrated the forms into Airport Authority Hong Kong ’s (AAHK) cargo data platform, an open platform on blockchain. “Previously, freight forwarders could only obtain SRFs by undergoing authentication with paper-based identification documents and queuing for truck dock and cargo clearances,” the release stated. “Under the new process, an eSRF can be issued through electronic authentication. Airlines can issue the eSRF to freight forwarders or consignees for pre-registration, automatic truck dock allocation and online queuing for cargo clearance. With the inspection confirmation being recorded electronically, a cargo release confirmation will be shown on the mobile device.” Cathay Cargo Terminal and AAHK developed this solution in consultation with the Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics , airlines, cargo agents, truckers and regulators. “The introduction of eSRF is a real game-changer — akin to the introduction of e-tickets in passenger aviation,” Cathay Cargo Terminal Chief Operating Officer Mark Watts said in the release. HKG is the largest cargo airport in the world, ranking first on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list. Jaguar integrates Pledge Valley Stream, N.Y.-based freight forwarder Jaguar Freight Services last week integrated Pledge ’s emissions measurement and reporting platform into its website. The platform allows users to measure freight emissions multimodally by entering cargo details, origin and destination. Users can refine results by entering additional shipment data. The integration was completed using software company Chain.io ’s Open Connect, a framework that allows logistics software companies to integrate and exchange data with customers’ existing systems, according to a release from Pledge. “Our platform is integral to helping Jaguar and other like-minded companies in the logistics industry develop more sustainable supply chains, regardless of size, resources or technological capabilities,” Pledge co-founder and Chief Executive David de Picciotto said in the release. JALCargo capacity listed on WebCargo JALCargo , the cargo arm of Japan Airlines , has added its capacity for flights to Japan and other Asian countries from Japan, Europe and the United Kingdom to the WebCargo by Freightos digital booking and payment platform. “With JALCargo onboard, WebCargo can provide European and Japanese forwarders with access to 60% of global air cargo capacity online, efficient booking and quoting in just minutes, and wider trade lane coverage to key Asian markets,” Freightos Chief Revenue Officer Manuel Galindo said in a Jan. 24 release from the company. Japan Airlines was No. 24 on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top cargo carriers. (Courtesy/WBV)[/caption] Amsterdam-based airfreight wholesaler Wholesale By Vels (WBV) last week launched its CargoPilot platform, which took two years to develop. CargoPilot shows rates for next available flights — not deferred, block space agreements — and targets non- IATA freight agents, using WBV’s own IATA license and industry platform CASS membership, according to a release from WBV. All shipments booked through CargoPilot are vetted by WBV for compliance with the IATA European Air Cargo Programme. CargoPilot “combines a powerful airline cargo rates quotation tool with a unique value-add quoting and booking facility,” WBV co-founder and Managing Director Rinaldo Vels said in the release. “It makes dynamic prices on IATA carriers available to agents who do not have IATA recognition. That means their cargo moves faster and often more economically than it would using traditional wholesalers.”
