Digital Pulse: AMS launches upgraded port community system

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol upgraded its port community system this month after four years of collaborative development with its cargo information platform, Cargonaut . [caption id="attachment_89726" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/AMS)[/caption] The port community system (PCS) is a single-tech platform for information and data exchange between all internal cargo stakeholders at Schiphol (AMS) and external authorities such as customs, according to a recent release from the airport. The upgraded system offers faster data processing, greater transparency and compliance with the latest IATA standards and guidelines. “By upgrading specific parts of the PCS, the system is more robust and future-proof,” AMS Head of Cargo Joost van Doesburg said in the release. “This means we can continue to safely ensure the smooth import and export of a large amount of cargo.” AMS ranked 21st on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, having transported 1.4 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. The upgraded PCS uses API connections, extensible markup language for data migration and IATA’s ONE Record data model, according to the release. ONE Record is a standard for data sharing that creates a single record view of a shipment. “This model allows air cargo partners within this digital ecosystem to exchange data easily and transparently,” Marco van Katwijk , head of Cargonaut, said in the release. “We are currently carrying out a migration of the first clients to the updated PCS.” Additionally, the airport plans to implement a secure import system later this year that will inform forwarders when an import shipment is ready for collection and will cross-reference data to improve security, according to the release. AMS is also working to improve its truck management system to reduce truck waiting times. Groundforce Portugal uses Hermes 5 Hermes Logistics Technologies ’ (HLT) cloud-based cargo management system, Hermes 5, is now live across Groundforce Portugal ’s cargo stations at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (OPO) and Madeira Airport (FNC), according to release from HLT this week. Implementation was entirely automated, removing manual intervention and ensuring uniform implementation across the sites, according to the release. “Leveraging the latest automated platform deployment and management techniques enabled us to complete the migration very quickly,” HLT Chief Executive Yuval Baruch said in the release. HLT now maintains and monitors the ground handler’s servers, managing software updates and performing regular security audits. Maersk launches digital airfreight booking [caption id="attachment_57140469" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/Maersk)[/caption] Maersk this month launched a digital airfreight booking solution that provides customers with prices for 70,000 airport pairs across more than 90 countries, according to a release from the company. “Manufacturing has truly diversified with global value chains,” Darryl Judd , Maersk’s regional head of airfreight in the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Africa, said in the release. “We are noticing that customers sitting in one part of the world need to move raw material from origin to destination without being at either of the locations.” Maersk ranked 25th on Air Cargo Next ’s Power 25 list of top freight forwarders, marking its entry onto the list. Maersk Air Cargo launched in 2022, but Maersk has been in the airfreight industry since it acquired carrier Star Air in 1993. Singapore Airlines goes paperless with Trax Singapore Airlines has entered an agreement to use eMRO and TraxDoc solutions from Trax , a provider of paperless aviation maintenance and engineering software, according to a release from Trax this week. Trax is a subsidiary of AAR Corp. Trax’s eMRO, an electronic maintenance, repair and overhaul document, will streamline the creation, approval and packaging of maintenance tasks, according to the release. TraxDoc imports original equipment manufacturer and other data, allowing for the automated creation of digital task cards. “This agreement further accelerates our growth in Asia Pacific and more strongly positions us to support other airlines in the region who are considering replacing their legacy maintenance systems with commercially available off-the-shelf cloud and mobile software solutions like Trax,” Trax President Jose Almeida said in the release. Singapore Airlines ranked 15th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of the top cargo carriers, flying 5.2 billion cargo tonne kilometers in 2022.
