Digital Pulse: Asia Airfreight Terminal deploys autonomous electric tractors

Asia Airfreight Terminal , a subsidiary of SATS , introduced autonomous electric tractors at its terminal in Hong Kong this month. Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) tested the autonomous electric tractors (AET) for 18 months prior to launch, according to a release from AAT. The AETs will be used to tow cargo and unit load devices across various routes and levels of the terminal. (Courtesy/Asia Airfreight Terminal)[/caption] “We are not only reducing carbon footprint but also ensuring resilience and the quality of service we provide to our customers,” AAT Chief Executive Mike Chew said in the release. AETs can navigate adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain or fog, ensuring operational continuity, according to the release. The AETs can quickly transition between manual and autonomous modes, allowing for flexibility. “By assigning iterative tasks to AETs, we also enhance manpower efficiency and improve service quality,” the release stated. The AETs have a range of 90 kilometers per charge and produce 35% less carbon emissions than conventional diesel tractors, according to the release. The AETs use various technologies for navigation. AET safety features include: Nine high-definition cameras; Three light detection and ranging sensors; A 3D mapping system; A differential global positioning system; and A braking system that engages when obstacles are detected within 10 meters. Trax, PTC aim to optimize MRO operations Paperless aviation maintenance and engineering software provider Trax , a subsidiary of AAR , and engineering, Internet of Things and augmented reality provider PTC announced plans this month to integrate Trax’s platforms with PTC’s AI-based solution Servigistics. Servigistics combines “advanced algorithm innovation” with AI, machine learning and data science to provide service supply chain insight and automation, according to PTC’s website. The Trax-PTC collaboration aims to increase efficiency and optimize service supply chains across airline and maintenance, repair and operations activities, according to a release from Trax. “Servigistics is committed to revolutionizing service supply chain optimization through advanced data science, ... machine learning and artificial intelligence,” Servigistics Division Vice President and General Manager Leslie Paulson said in the release. “Collaborating with Trax furthers our mission to empower organizations with the tools and insights needed to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.” Nallian to integrate slot booking tech with PayCargo Logistics technology provider Nallian announced plans this week to integrate its slot management solution with PayCargo ’s payment platform, allowing freight forwarders and truckers to streamline cargo pickup and drop-off scheduling and import cargo payments and transactions. This integration is expected to eliminate truck wait times at airports and warehouses, shorten dock turnaround, improve staff planning and reduce administrative oversight, according to a joint release. This collaboration supports “efficient, paperless freight management,” Nallian Chief Executive Jean Verheyen said in the release. “It will allow our customers to better coordinate activities, so they increase efficiency and reduce their environmental impact,” he said.
