DHL signed a multi-year agreement with US-based Southern Air under which Southern will operate three 777 Freighters for the German integrator on an ACMI basis. The first of the three has already entered service on an around-the-world basis, on a Hong Kong-Cincinnatti-Bahrain-Hong Kong route. The 777F’s range allows it to fly the route with no fuel stops, and DHL says this has allowed for significant reductions in transit times. The photo shows this freighter with a new DHL/Southern combined livery.

Southern currently has two 777Fs in its fleet (one of which it operates for Thai Airways), plus two more on firm order through its parent Oak Hill Capital Partners. When these two enter the fleet in March and April of next year, Southern will immediately put them into service for DHL.
