Just two weeks after Avinor AS, the operator of Oslo Airport (OSL), terminated an agreement to work with ground-handler Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) on a planned seafood cargo handling facility, the company expanded its seafood exports from the airport with an additional scheduled freighter service.

Yesterday, OSL welcomed the third weekly flight from Russia-based AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) dedicated to the export of seafood from Norway to Seoul, South Korea, via Moscow.

“AirBridgeCargo is an important part of our aim to facilitate more capacity for the Norwegian seafood industry to our largest trading partners in Asia,” said Martin Langaas, cargo director at Avinor. “Freighter routes are boosting the competitiveness of Norwegian seafood.”

Last year, via its two already existing 747-8 freighter frequencies to Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO) and Seoul’s Incheon International (ICN), ABC transported about US$57.1 million worth of seafood out of Norway.

With the third 747-8F departure that began on Tuesday, capacity is estimated to increase by another $28.6 million in export value each year on the OSL-SVO-ICN route, Langaas said. The new Tuesday departure increases ABC’s total weekly capacity for Norwegian seafood to nearly 230 tonnes.
