MASkargo relaunches Guangzhou flight to handle cross-border e-commerce

In order to take advantage of booming cross-border e-commerce, MASkargo will relaunch a nonstop freighter flight between Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou from June 4 until December 2019. The flight will be operated by an A330-200F twice a week, with a capacity of approximately 60 tonnes per flight.

Mark Jason Thomas, chief commercial officer of MASkargo, said that the weakening trend of air cargo has caused capacity growth to outstrip demand growth so far in 2019. “In accordance with this, MASkargo will adjust its network schedule to fully optimize its overall offering for the upcoming second and third quarters,” he said. “This will allow the company to ensure profitable load factors and continued deployment of its aircraft at optimum levels.”

The freighter flight will supplement Malaysia Airlines’ current daily A330 operation to Guangzhou, as well as MASkargo’s other freighter services to Chinese destinations. Taking into account the growing demand for e-commerce shipments between China and Malaysia, the carrier expects the new flight to generate an additional stream of business worth approximately US$4.7 million.

“The scheduled services will further boost MASkargo’s revenue by capitalizing on the untapped business,” said Thomas. “It is MASkargo’s strategy to mount scheduled services to the new destinations to cater for the impending demand.”

MASkargo’s fleet currently consists of three A330-200Fs.
