Pegas Fly’s Shijazhuang-Moscow route offers more China-Russia cargo capacity

Russian carrier Ikar Airlines, which operates as Pegas Fly, has launched regular service between Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO) and Shijiazhuang Airport (SJW) in the capital of China’s Hebei province.

The round-trip service is scheduled to operate once weekly using one of Pegas Fly’s 767-300 passenger aircraft and is the first scheduled service operating regularly between the two airports, according to flight tracking software. Chinese media reports the once-weekly route offers between eight and 10 tonnes of capacity. The initial cargo carried on the route included primarily clothing manufactured in Hebei and nearby areas, and electronic devices like LED screens and circuit breakers, according to Hebei News Network.

The new service is supportive of the ongoing developments in China’s “Belt and Road” trade plan, which among other objectives, aims to more closely integrate Hebei logistics networks with those in Beijing and Tianjin. For more on development plans in the region, see this year’s coverage by Associate Editor Chelsea Toczauer.
