WFS secures cargo contracts at Copenhagen and Malpensa.World Flight Services (WFS) acquired the Copenhagen Airport-based cargo-handling business currently run by Swissport Cargo Services Denmark. After a brief, two-year stint in Copenhagen, Swissport said that losses from the operation led to the decision to exit the Danish market. The company had earlier pulled out of cargo handling operations at New York’s JFK airport in June. Swissport said it will transfer all Danish business operations at its 18,000-tonne-per-year facility to WFS by 1 October, but said it will continue its efforts to expand its cargo handling operations worldwide. WFS, already the largest cargo handler in Denmark, said the transaction would boost its Copenhagen freight volume to 100,000 tonnes per year. Meanwhile, in Italy, WFS announced the inking of a cargo handling contract for Milan Malpensa Airport. The company plans to invest in excess of €1.8 million in new freight handling and logistics equipment at a new 5,000 sq m terminal before beginning operations in early FY2016. The contract at Milan Malpensa will run for at least 10 years, with an option for an additional five. WFS already has two existing cargo terminals and 10,000 sq m of warehouse space at the airport, which handles roughly half of the air cargo exports coming out of Italy.

Royal Brunei signs Cathay Pacific Services as cargo handler. Royal Brunei Airlines selected Cathay Pacific Services Ltd (CPSL) to handle its cargo at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). In addition to six A320 narrowbody aircraft, Royal Brunei operates four 787-8s and has one more on order.
